Hey! I’m Coach Reed and I love basketball! I love playing, coaching and talking basketball. Throughout my years in the sport, I have grown to understand what it takes to be a well-rounded athlete. And, I am passionate about helping young people achieve their basketball goals!

Basketball has opened a lot of doors for me both personally and professionally. Fortunately, I had great success since I was 16 years old. Early achievement was one of the things that consistently propelled my career. As a Junior National Team Gold Medalist, the opportunity to play basketball in Montevideo, Uruguay was an amazing experience.  Playing with outstanding teammates such as Grant Hill, Allan Houston, Calbert Chaney, Terry Dehere, Luther Wright, Conrad McRae, and many others helped build my career. The gold medal I won in Uruguay made me work harder to become a better person and athlete.

In high school, I was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and named “Mr. Basketball of the State of Louisiana.” This led to a full scholarship at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. I worked hard my freshman year and earned the title, “Freshman of The Year in The Metro Conference.” It was a great honor and privilege to lead the team to 9th in the nation after helping Tulane reestablish its basketball program in a very short period. I was inducted into the Tulane Hall of Fame, The Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame, became the “All-time Leading Scorer” in Tulane’s history when I left the university. And, to top off a great college career, my #55 jersey was retired and hangs in Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.

And then…

In 1993, I was drafted by the World Champion Chicago Bulls! Now that was exciting! It felt great! I’ll never forget that moment with my family. We were all so nervous waiting for the announcement. Ahhhhh! I can still feel the tension just thinking about it. It was what I had worked so hard for and now I was starting to see the fruit of all those suicide drills, seventeens, running miles at a time, up early and in the weight room, and the extreme exhaustion. I’m going to the NBA! Yeah baby!!!

I went to camp with the Bulls and then decided to play in Europe. I played in several countries and experienced the game of basketball with some of the best coaches and trainers around the globe. Learning different techniques and strategies from different cultures provided me with an in-depth respect, knowledge and understanding that can help young athletes with all aspects of the game including earning scholarships, sports nutrition and how to position yourself for success. I can also give parents insight about how they can support and help young athletes from an early age. I will tap my vast network of former collegiate and professional players to ensure and contribute to the success of all participant athletes.

The wonder of this team sport is that it builds character, encourages teamwork and promotes social skills. Playing basketball is fun… anywhere in the world. I invite you to come and expand your horizons with us at HoopCasters.

Everything about my career has perfectly positioned me to help young basketball players and their parents. Check us out. At the very least, take one of assessments and see where you stand. I look forward to meeting you at one of HoopCasters’ events, classes and workouts!

Dr. Cindy Milligan

The "Caster" in HoopCasters

Founder & Creator of HoopCasters SportsCastingSkills I. Q., Communication Consultant and Coach

Hi!  I’m Dr. Cindy Milligan and I love voice! I love everything about voice. I love learning about voice, teaching other people about voice, performing voice, and most of all listening to voices. I especially love hearing the creative use of voice during a basketball game.

I’m a theorist and a film scholar who specializes in the study of the human voice. I have an earned PhD in Communication from Georgia State University where my focus was on film and voice. But prior to completing my PhD, I worked in television and radio news as a broadcaster.

I've had the opportunity to work both in front of and behind the camera so I fully understand what it takes to broadcast live events.

My research in voice and film led me to create a theory called Sonic Vocality which explains how actors use their voices to create character. It’s fascinating! And out of my research on voice and character portrayal, I’ve developed a unique way of teaching voice to performers…specifically actors. This new approach to voice uses my research and acoustic biomimicry to encourage performers to explore their voices more deeply while creating unique works of art!

I’ve worked in many areas of communication using my voice as a TV and radio anchor, reporter and talk show host, voice and speech coach.  I’ve travelled all over the world as a motivational speaker, I’ve been an actor and voice over artist, and oh…. Now I’m a college professor and entrepreneur!  Hmmmm… sounds like I should be tired, huh? Not at all. I’m just getting started!

Other stuff about me

- I love R & B music, and especially funk! Are there any funkateers out there? Hey Bootsie…holla at ya girl!

- I grew up on a farm in southwestern Indiana

- I’ve been in some crazy situations, but for the full story… you’ll have to ask me about: 1) the day I was caught in the middle of an armed bank robbery; 2) when I was on a plane that caught fire in air; 3) the time an angel led me through a riot in the streets of Paris; 4) my one and only attempt at doing the weather for NBC (Ha!); and 5)  the time I was mistaken for a terrorist and detained at London Gatwick airport.

I've had a pretty crazy life and have a lot of stories to tell, but now I'm ready to share my knowledge and experience with those who are ready to learn.  Is that you?

Like Coach Reed, everything about my career has brought me to this point. I have a new-found love and appreciation for basketball and along with my  passion for voice and communication have perfectly positioned me to help young people become better communicators and excel at sportscasting.

I can't wait to meet you at HoopCasters! Join us to learn sportscasting and the game of basketball.
